Grass Skiing

Grass skiing is a sport which involves skiing on grass-covered slopes. Grass skiing was received well and lot of alpine skiing athletes started using it for training. The increase in popularity led to the origin of a competitive sport of its own. Grass skiing is currently popular in several countries where both men and women practice the sport.For grass skiing, the skis used are completely different from snow skiing. They are much shorter in length, and consist of wheels. The wheels are enclosed inside rolling treads. The skiers were specialized boots to which the rolling treads are fastened to.

Grass skiing, skiing on grass is a method for training for alpine skiing. Both grass skiing and alpine skiing have become established as sports in their own right. The skis used for grass skiing are short with rolling treads or wheels. Depending on the skill of the grass skier, high speeds and jumps can be navigated.

While it’s still making progress with technological developments, grass skiing is a great way to ski all year round. Grass skiing is sometimes considered summer’s equivalent to winter snow skiing. While not as popular as its cold weather counterpart.

Grass skiers use poles just like snow skiers. Just as helmets are a necessity for alpine skiing, helmets are used for grass skiing, too. Many grass skiers wear padding on their knees, legs, and elbows.

 Addition to grass skiing, you will need ski boots, ski poles, a helmet and protective elements – a helmet and a spine/backbone protector.

TYPES OF GRASS SKIING

There are two types of skis used in grass skiing. These are the wheeled models and the tracked ones. The wheeled model can be used in various terrains and for freestyle skiing and off-piste skiing. The tracked model on the other hand is specifically designed to be used in grassy slopes.
